International Collaboration with the University of Edinburgh: Project on Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) 2023-24 Theme: Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)

St. Michael's For Girls collaborated with The University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, on the SDG -12 Project. Students of Junior & Senior School monitored & checked the consumption & wastage of electricity, food, paper and water. This project was conducted over a period of three months. Over the months, a drastic reduction in the wastage of resources was observed. Students and teachers became more conscious and alert about switching off the lights and fans, eating what they take and alerting the authorities about leaking faucets and taps. On the successful completion of the UN SDG-12 Responsible Consumption & Production project, the school, students and teachers were awarded International Certificates of Completion by The University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

2. Freshers’ Welcome & Fun Games (Junior and Senior School) 2024

Theme: Welcoming New Students and Building Friendships The new academic year kicked off with a series of lively Freshers’ Fun Games for both Junior and Senior School students. For the Junior School students (Classes 2 to 5), the games provided a fantastic opportunity to break the ice and make new friends, while having fun in a relaxed and playful environment. These activities encouraged students to interact, bond, and set a positive tone for the year ahead. For the Senior School students (Classes 6 to 10), the focus was on fostering new friendships, teamwork and collaboration between old and new students. Students worked together in group challenges, strengthening their ability to cooperate and communicate effectively. These interactive games were not only enjoyable but also helped students develop important social skills and build strong connections with their peers.

3. Science Exhibition on Millets and Sustainable Innovation 2024

Theme: Celebrating Science and Sustainability The Science and Technology Club organized an impressive Science Exhibition in celebration of the International Year of Millets. The event highlighted the ecological, nutritional, and cultural importance of millets as a sustainable food source. The exhibition featured a variety of student-created models and experiments, notably the Circulatory System, Hydraulic Bridge, Chandrayaan 3, and Dialysis Machine. Chemistry experiments like Styrofoam Magic, Flame Test, Electrolysis, and Magnesium Ribbon added excitement, while the Millet Scrub demonstrated practical uses of the crop. The school quadrangle was filled with vibrant charts and engaging displays, where students interacted with parents and peers, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for science.

4. Robotics Festival 2023

Theme: Innovation and Technical Learning
The Robotics Festival showcased the school’s commitment to technological innovation. Students from classes 6 to 10 built and programmed robotic cars, learning essential principles of robotics such as sensor integration and coding. Assembling the different components of the robotic car, provided the students with practical experience in understanding the synergy between hardware and software. The event sparked curiosity and enhanced their skills in science and engineering.

5. SMG Diplomatic Summit (Model United Nations) 2024

Theme: Diplomacy, Debate, and Global Issues The MUN Club hosted the SMG Diplomatic Summit '24, a dynamic Mini Model United Nations conference, bringing together delegates from six countries. Over the course of the event, students engaged in thought-provoking debates on critical global issues, including climate change, food security in conflict zones, achieving zero hunger, and the complexities of cyber warfare, cyber terrorism, and cybercrime. Each committee fostered intense discussions as delegates worked to find solutions and navigate the intricacies of these global challenges. Students’ ability to engage in constructive dialogue and offer innovative solutions was truly impressive. The SMG Diplomatic Summit '24 proved to be an inspiring platform for young minds to demonstrate their commitment to global issues and diplomacy as responsible citizens of the country and the world..

6. Culinary Creations In The Making: Non-Fire Cooking Contest 2024

Theme: Fostering Creativity and Culinary Skills in Young Minds Through Fun, Hands-On Learning
St. Michael's School for Girls recently hosted a vibrant Non-Fire Cooking Contest, where young chefs from Nursery to Class 5 showcased their culinary creativity. The students presented a wide variety of imaginative dishes, each highlighting their talent and passion for cooking. Chef Jayanta Roy Chowdhury added an extra touch of excitement to the contest. As a judge, he evaluated the entries based on presentation, creativity, and originality, offering the students valuable insights into the art of cooking. His presence truly inspired the young chefs to push their boundaries and explore new culinary delights.

7. MindGym - A Unique Maths Quiz 2023 -2024

Theme: A Fun and Challenging Approach to Mathematics
The MindGym 2023-24, a math quiz competition held for students from classes 2 to 7, encouraged logical thinking and mathematical calculations. Students participated in individual and team rounds, with the top scorers from Group A (Classes 2–4) and Group B (Classes 5–7) emerging as winners, showcasing their mathematical skills in a fun and engaging format.

8. Impactful Career And Financial Wellness Presentation By Student Clubs of St. Michael’s School For Girls

Theme: Career Guidance and Financial Literacy for Holistic Development The Career Counselling Club and the Physical & Mental Wellness Club at St. Michaels For Girls, organized a joint presentation to support students in their future planning. The Career Counselling Club focused on guiding students about career paths in Arts, Science, and Commerce, providing insights on subject combinations, entrance exams, and stream preferences after the ICSE examinations. At the same time, the Physical & Mental Wellness Club delivered a session on financial literacy, covering topics such as budgeting, saving, and investing, emphasizing their importance in ensuring long-term physical, mental, and financial well-being. Both clubs successfully equipped students with essential information for career and financial planning.

9. A Visit to 'Apna Ghar' (Old Age Home) 2024

Theme: Compassion and Community Engagement
Through the visit to 'Apna Ghar' in Siliguri, students from the Literary and Journalism Club connected with elderly residents, engaged in meaningful conversations and distributed thoughtful gift packets. The day culminated in a lively program to uplift the spirits of the seniors, who expressed deep appreciation for the students' kindness and initiative. This visit fostered acts of community engagement, character building and value-nurturing amongst the students-a valuable education for today's times.

10. An Excursion to the Department of Sericulture 2024

Theme: Experiential Learning in Silk Production
The students explored the fascinating world of sericulture at the Department of Sericulture in Matigara, Siliguri. Guided by Mr. Bhawesh Verma, they learned about the intricate process of silkworm rearing and silk extraction. The complex encompassed mulberry farms, silkworm-rearing units, silk processing facilities and a cold storage plant. The hands-on experience offered valuable insights into the agricultural and economic significance of silk production.
